"Simple design changes took too much effort"
I used nationbuilder for a small campaign site, and getting the basic site up was straightforward. The frustrating part was once I tried to make it look a little more like our own site instead of just another template.

Things that felt like they should be simple, like adjusting layouts or cleaning up page styles, ended up taking way more digging than I expected. Some changes needed code, and the theme setup felt dated and kind of awkward to work with.

The support docs helped here and there, but I still found myself stuck on small design edits that shouldn’t have been that hard. It’s fine if you’re okay with the default look, but if you want something more custom, it gets annoying fast

"Privacy is solid, if you can find it"
Overall, it feels secure, and the privacy controls are actually decent. It’s just that a few of the data settings were tucked away like some kind of secret treasure, because apparently privacy should come with a scavenger hunt.

"Does the job, but it’s not the smoothest"
I used this to put together a basic website over a weekend while drinking way too much coffee, and overall it was fine. It gets the job done if you just need simple pages, but I wouldn’t call it super smooth. Some of the layout editing felt clunky, and I kept having to click around to find things that seemed like they should’ve been more obvious. The templates look decent enough, kind of the usual clean website style, but they aren’t as flexible as I hoped. It’s probably good if you don’t need anything fancy, but for the price, I expected the whole thing to feel a little easier.

"The docs kept setup from feeling impossible"
I usually feel like I’m the one who gets stuck on every little setup step, so I expected this to be a headache. But the docs and training videos actually made it way less scary. I still had to pause and rewatch a few parts, but they helped me figure things out without feeling completely abandoned...

"I’ve been using NationBuilder to keep supporter actions..."
I’ve been using NationBuilder to keep supporter actions, emails, tags, and follow-ups tied together, and overall it’s been useful. It’s nice not having to bounce between a bunch of different tools just to set up some basic automations.

The setup can be a little confusing though, some options feel tucked away and testing workflows can get tedious. Once you figure out where everything is, it works fine, I just thought it would be a bit more straightforward.

"Made it way easier to reach the right people"
This has been really helpful for our outreach. Before, we were kind of guessing who to send things to and hoping the message would land, which worked sometimes but also wasted a lot of time. The segmentation makes it much easier to split people into the right groups based on what actually matters, so we can be more intentional instead of just blasting everyone with the same thing. It’s one of those features that sounds simple, but once you start using it, you realize how much smoother it makes the whole process.

"Useful social tools, but my first impression was clunky"
I used NationBuilder mostly to connect our campaign pages with Facebook and X, my snap judgment was that the idea is solid. Posting updates and pulling in contacts did save us time, and once things were connected, it was handy.
That said, the setup felt more confusing than it needed to be. A couple of syncs failed with basically no useful explanation, which was frustrating. It works fine after you poke around a bit, but for the price, I expected the social media features to feel a lot smoother

"Hard to keep the database clean"
We were using nationbuilder for our voter/supporter list, at least for the main chunk of it, and it got frustrating. Imports didn’t always land the way we expected, duplicates kept popping up, and sometimes just finding the right person felt like way more clicking around than it should’ve been.

I’m sure some of it depends on how your setup is managed, but support wasn’t much help for us when we needed answers. For what it costs, I expected the database side to feel cleaner and easier to trust. We ended up moving off it after a while

"The analytics have definitely been useful, but I..."
The analytics have definitely been useful, but I do kind of regret not realizing how slow the reports can be to load. They get the job done, and the information is helpful once it appears, but I wish the reporting experience was a bit clearer and quicker overall...

"I mean, it did what I needed..."
I mean, it did what I needed it to do for basic fundraising, so I can’t complain too much. Donations went through fine and everything worked in the end. But the setup? Kind of clunky, honestly. I felt like I had to click around way more than necessary just to get simple stuff configured. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it definitely made me mutter at my screen a few times.

"Too pricey for what you get"
It felt a bit too expensive for me. I don’t think it was really worth the price, and the whole purchase feels avoidable if you’re on a budget.

"Onboarding didn’t go how I expected"
I went in expecting the setup to be straightforward, but the onboarding ended up feeling really messy. The calls felt rushed, and even after going through everything, I still couldn’t get some basic pages working. It was a lot more confusing than I thought it would be

"Gets harder to deal with as you grow"
NationBuilder was fine for us at the beginning when our group was still small. But once we started adding more people, lists, and moving parts, it got a lot messier than I expected. Things felt slower, and managing everything became more of a chore. Support did help here and there, but it didn’t really make the scaling part feel much easier. Anyway... it works okay early on, but for us it became frustrating once we started growing.

"Took me a little while, but I got there"
I was in a slightly impatient mood when I first started using NationBuilder, so the learning curve felt a bit frustrating at the beginning. It wasn’t super obvious to me right away, but after clicking around and watching a few help videos, things started to fall into place. Once I got more comfortable with it, I actually found it solid and easy enough to manage.

"Mobile site felt like a bait and switch"
It works fine on my laptop, so I expected the same on my phone, but that’s where it started feeling like a bit of a bait and switch. The mobile version is clunky, the menus jump around, and some pages load weird or don’t line up right. It’s especially frustrating when I’m just trying to update something quickly and end up fighting with the site instead.

"NationBuilder has been fine overall, but dealing with..."
NationBuilder has been fine overall, but dealing with support was frustrating. I had a small settings issue and waited days to hear back, only to get a response that felt generic and didn’t really solve it.

I ended up emailing again and repeating myself, which was annoying, especially when I’m being charged for the service and there wasn’t much of an update in the meantime. They did eventually help, and the fix was useful, but by then I’d already wasted time I didn’t expect to lose at this price

"We used NationBuilder for a couple of..."
We used NationBuilder for a couple of local events, and overall it did the job well. Tracking RSVPs was straightforward, and sending updates out to everyone didn’t take much effort.
It did take me a little while to figure out where everything was. Some of the event editing pages feel clunky, and a few extra steps seemed unnecessary when I just wanted to make a quick change.
That said, it definitely helped us stay organized and saved time with the guest lists. It’s not perfect, but I’d use it again for another event

"I’ve used NationBuilder a handful of times..."
I’ve used NationBuilder a handful of times now, and one thing that really sticks with me is how fast the pages load. I remember that annoying feeling of waiting on other sites, clicking around and wondering if something froze, but I haven’t really had that here. Moving between sections feels smooth and quick, so I can just get in, do what I need to do, and move on. It’s a small thing, but it makes the whole experience feel so much easier.

"Some integrations work, but setup can be a hassle"
I’ve had mixed results with the integrations. Some third-party tools connected without much trouble, but others took way more effort than they should have. The setup process gets annoying quickly, a lot of that feels preventable with clearer instructions or more reliable connectors.

"Contact management was a bit clunky for me"
I mainly used NationBuilder for managing contacts, it felt a little clunky at times. Searching for people and updating their records seemed to take more clicks than I expected, and dealing with duplicates got annoying. That said, it’s not like it doesn’t work, it does the job, and maybe once you get really used to the workflow it feels smoother. I just expected day-to-day contact management to be a bit easier
